Zelma Davis Finger, age 86 of Maryville, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was born January 30, 1923 in Blount County at home. There were no hospitals in Blount County then. Her parents were Charley Davis and Fannie Humphrey Davis. She was of the Baptist denomination and was saved at Long Hollow Baptist Church at 14. She was a good mother, a good grandmother and a good great grandmother. She has 2 children, Linda and Vivian; 3 grandchildren, David Murphy, Jr., Angela Gamble, Donna Honeycutt and 5 great grandchildren, Trey Honeycutt, Beth Honeycutt, Andrew Murphy, Jordan Murphy, Kaylie Gamble. Zelma went to Middlesettlements grade school and Everett High School. She walked to grade school, 3 miles a day, but rode the school bus to Everett High School. She worked as a beautician for 2 years until her first child was born. She married Parks Finger at age 21, three years later their first child was born. They lived in the Forest Hill community. Zelma joined Forest Hill Church in 1954. She was preceded in death by her husband, Parks Finger; son, Jerry Finger; brothers, Edwin Davis, J. C. Davis and Norris Davis; sister, Ruby Wright. She has 2 sisters living, Dollie Williams and Anna Mae Beaty both of Blount County. Zelma has many nieces and nephews in Blount County and also in other states. Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Grubb officiating. The interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Zions Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to Forest Hill Baptist Church, 1850 Forest Hill Road, Maryville, TN 37803.
