Wilma Walker Thompson

Thompson, Wilma Walker - age 91 of Maryville and Oak Ridge, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 24, 2002. A member of First Baptist Church of Maryville, she worked for more than 40 years in the medical profession as a nursing assistant, including the office of surgeons Proffitt, Yarborough, and Peterson of Maryville. Wilma also worked at George Washington Hospital in Washington, D.C. during WWII, and fondly remembered Eleanor Roosevelt's visit to the wounded soldiers. She traveled across the U.S. and abroad, and shared her love of Jesus with everyone she met. She spent her life caring for others. Wilma lived in Maryville for over 70 years before moving to Oak Ridge where she enjoyed being near Ashley, who she loved and adored. Preceded in death by her parents, Will and Dora Thompson. Wilma is survived by family members Cathy Farmer Waitinas, her husband Jerry, and their daughters Ashley, Jackie, and Rachel of Oliver Springs, Tenn.; Quindell and Lorraine Queen of Kenai, Alaska; Ed and Charlotte Joyce of Dallas, Texas; Charlie and Linda Rogers of Alcoa, Tenn.; and many family and friends. She was lovingly cared for by the staff of Clinch River Home Health Care for the past 10 years, and lived in the gracious care of the staff of NHC Healthcare Center in Oak Ridge since 1997. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers should be made to Clinch River Home Health, P.O.Box 56, Clinton, TN 37716, to provide equipment for loan to patients in need. Family and friends will meet 4:00 PM Sunday, August 25th, 2002 at Carpenters Campground Methodist Church in Maryville for a graveside service.
