William Joseph "Bill" Smith

Surrounded by his children, Bill passed peacefully on the morning of September 3, 2024 at 9:07. Stories of him with us and his beloved grandchildren were shared, and tears were shed while hands were held. It was a rare gift and privilege for which he and we are eternally grateful. Bill Smith, aged 93 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Formerly of Winchester, NH, he resided in Maryville, TN with his wife Connie Smith. He relished the many opportunities life offered him: including his time as Groundskeeper at Northfield Mount Hermon and serving many people, friends and community, as the area’s only Garbologist; eventually retiring from the National Grange Insurance Company. Born in Flushing, NY he was a graduate of Baldwin High School. After which, he attended classes at SUNY Canton where he studied animal husbandry. He returned to Baldwin pursuing several interests, including his love of cars, where he met the love of his life, Constance Alma Miller. Moving north to New Hampshire, he and Connie raised seven children of whom he was very proud. In addition to his professional life, Bill shared a love of travel and the outdoors with his family and many friends, and also enjoyed the privilege of membership in the National Grange Order of Patrons of Husbandry. In service to the Grange, he held many local, regional and state positions rising to the rank of Past State Master. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Connie, his parents, Otto & Mildred Smith; mother-in-law, Patricia Miller; children, Frank and Christina, son-in-law, Jason Carl; granddaughter, Ashley Carl; and brother, Robert M. Smith. William is survived by his children, Periann Carl, Robert Smith and his wife Donna Williams, Patricia Smith Devino and her husband Bill, Nancy Carrizales and her husband Venancio, Dawnald Smith and his wife Jackie, his grandchildren, Danielle Carrizales and her fiancé, Greg Maneikis, Alexandra Carrizales and Rebecca and Devon Smith, and sister-in-law, Iris Smith, along with many nieces and nephews. Bill took exceptional joy is welcoming his great grandson, James Moy Maneikis: having entered this word July 2024. Making friends wherever he went, Bill will be sorely missed.
