CARPENTER, William Ray, age 89 of Maryville, passed away Saturday, June 14th, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a Blount Co. Native residing at Sterling House for 3 years. He owned property on Little Tennessee River where he raised beef cattle and later on the Hiwassee River in Polk County. He loved music, sang and play the piano. He was a member of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church of Riceville, TN. Preceded in death by wife of 63 years Frances Jackson Carpenter. Sisters, Mrs. Oscars (Neva) Kidd, Mrs. Craig (Best) Tedford. Brother, Cecil Carpenter. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law; Mary Ann and Rev. Jim Harless. Grandchildren, Martha and Jerry Kilgore of Richmond, Va. David and Michele Harless of Mt. Carmel, TN. 3 Great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 7:00 PM Sunday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Chapel with Rev. Edwin Carter officiating. The interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Jackson Cemetery, Loudon, Co. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday at McCammon-Ammons- Click Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to: Bethel United Methodist P. O. Box 146 Vonore Tn. 37885, or Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, 3744 Hillsdale Dr. N.E., Cleveland Tn. 37312.
