William R. ''Bill'' Anderson Jr.

August 31, 1930 — May 21, 2003

William R.”Bill” Anderson Jr. age 72 of Maryville passed away Wednesday, May 21st, 2003 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was deeply loved and respected by his family, especially his grandchildren. He served The Bank of Maryville & First Tennessee Bank for 40 years where he retired as Executive Senior Vice President. Mr. Anderson continued to serve on the Board of Directors after retirement. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Maryville College in 1954 where he played baseball with batting average of .400 his senior year. He also played semi- pro baseball. He graduated from the LSU School of Banking of The South. Served in the Korean War for 2 years in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet. He was a very accomplished golfer, carrying a 2 handicap in his prime, and winning the Green Meadow Club Championship once and finishing runner-up twice. He was also well known for his skills as a great putter, frequently known to “run the table” on his opponents by seemingly making every putt. He was a formidable competitor in the East Tennessee Seniors Golf Association winning numerous events. Bill was very generous with his time and money to the community. He was a member of Maryville First United Methodist Church, active in the American Legion Post 13, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club of Maryville, United Way of Blount County, and selected as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America. He was preceded in death by father and mother, William R. Anderson Sr. and Blanche Davis Anderson and brother, David Lowell Anderson. Survivors include: former wife, Edwina R. Anderson. Son, Alan Anderson. Daughter, Gina Anderson all of Maryville. Son, William R. Anderson III and wife Renee’. Grandson, William R. Anderson IV. Granddaughters, Ashley Renee’ Anderson and Marcia Edith Kathleen Anderson all of Norcross, GA. Brother, Lynn Allen Anderson and wife Mary Ruth. Sister, Brenda A.Breeden. Sister-in-law, Wanda Anderson Hawkins all of Maryville, and several nieces and nephews. A private graveside service was held in Grandview Cemetery with Dr. Darris Doyal officiating.
