William G. (Bill) Bridges

March 29, 1933 — July 1, 2008

BRIDGES, William G. (Bill), of Tallassee died July 1, 2008 at Blount Memorial Hospital Hospice. Bill was preceded in death by parents, U.A. and Ella Raley Bridges; brothers, James L. and A.T. Bridges. He is survived by: sisters, Evelyn Merriman of Maryville, Edith Bridgers of Knoxville, and Dorothy Brown of Newnan GA; brothers, Charles Bridges of Indianapolis and Clifton Bridges of Monterrey, TN; several nieces and nephews. His special friends were Ronnie Stephens, Tommy Bernard, Gail and Charlie Sparks. Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Following a disabling stroke in 1982, he was blessed with a recovery that, though limited, enabled him to continue to live in his cabin near the river and take care of his daily needs. No one enjoyed God’s creation more than Bill, and the birds and small animals he fed have lost a great friend. Family and friends will meet 2:00 PM Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 at Clarks Grove Cemetery for a graveside service with his Maryville High School class of 1953 football teammate Tommy Bernard officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Blount Memorial Hospital Foundation. The family is grateful for the care that Bill received during his extended final illness, particularly from the nursing staff of Blount Memorial Hospital’s Fourth Floor, North, It’s Palliative Care Team and the attending and consulting physicians who cared for Bill, including particularly Dr. Samar Alsharif and Dr. Mark Cooper.
