Wanda Marie Gunter

Wanda Marie Gunter, age 91, of Maryville, passed away August 20, 2012, at home. She was an active member of Maryville First Baptist Church for over 60 years. She served as secretary to five pastors at First Baptist, as co-librarian for 55 years, was a member, and served as president for a time, of the Women's Missionary Union, and worked many years on the Reception Committee preparing for weddings, anniversaries, and other various receptions. She was born and raised in Murphysboro, Illinois and moved to Maryville when she was married in 1947 to Levi Gunter, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Tedford and Grace Pate, brother Arthur Pate, and sister Betty Pate. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Avery Young of Maryville and Martha and Ray Martinat of Rutherford College, NC; grandchildren Leigh Morton of Louisville, Laura and Billy Gribble, of Maryville, Trey and Julie Martinat of Mooresville, NC, and Maria Martinat of Raleigh, NC; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Atticus, Alisa, Madison, and Emily Gribble and Sophia Morton; brother, Ted Pate of Murphysboro, IL and brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Reba Jo Pate of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful employees of Blount Memorial Hospice and Palliative Care for the passionate care shown to our loved one. Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of Maryville First Baptist Church with The Reverend Charles Ballard, The Reverend Lucas Clabough, and The Reverend Gary Stinnett officiating. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p. m. in the sanctuary of the church. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, 3176 Airport Hwy., Alcoa, TN with a short service in the chapel.
