Walter Eugene Boling, 90, of Maryville, TN, joined his Heavenly Father peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at his home with his son, Steve, by his side.
Walter was born in Blount County Tennessee on June 27, 1932, to William H. Boling and Oda Brock Boling. He attended Porter High School and in 1952, joined the United States Army and served in Korea before returning stateside, where he met his wife of 66 years, Thelma Boyd Boling, while she was working at Richy Cream Drive-In. It was love at first sight!
Upon marrying her in 1955, he whisked her away to Germany where he was stationed intermittently for several years. Walter served two eighteen-month tours in Vietnam before being stationed in Virginia and Hawaii. At the rank of CW3, he retired from the Army in 1974 to be near loved ones back home.
Walter was very grateful for the opportunity the US Army gave him to provide for and raise his family during his military career and after. He served on DAV, VFW, and Purple Heart committees for many years. He felt honored to work for the Employment security office and the US Post Office until he retired. Walter loved his country and serving in the military but loved his wife and family even more.
His hobbies were putzing-around in his workshop and listening to his vast record and cd collection. He loved Jim Reeves and collected many genres of music. From ABBA to country western, to Joni James, Gene Autry, and Elvis, you would always find what you liked in his collection. He loved for company to ask to hear it.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Thelma, parents, daughter Janice Boling, brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children: son Steve (wife Sue), daughters Sandi Buckner, Patty Morgan, Lillie White, and family friend, Debbie Masters, who called him “dad.” He leaves behind seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, two on the way, and other family members and many friends around the world.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at McCammon Ammons Click Funeral Home at 220 W. Broadway Ave. Maryville, TN 37801 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. He will be interred with military honors at the East TN Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
