Walter C. “Pops†Douglas - age 83 of Maryville passed away Thursday, November 27, 2008. He was retired from ALCOA Aluminum Co with 38 years of service. And was a member of the ALCOA 25 Year Club. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy. He held many offices with Toastmasters Club and was District Governer in 1963. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with honors at the age of 58 and a life member of the NRA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Rayder Douglas; 6 brothers and 1 sister. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Handley Douglas; daughters, Linda Douglas of Maryville, and Deanna Sheffer of McKinney, TX; sons, Phil Douglas of Anchorage, Alaska, and Gary Douglas of Knoxville; 4 grandchildren; brother Frank Douglas of Kingston; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Manis officiating. The interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tuckaleechee Methodist Church Cemetery fund or to the Odd Fellows Cemetery fund in Rockwood, TN.
