Virginia Ann Kerr Spence

February 11, 1943 — January 7, 2015

Virginia Ann Kerr Spence-on January 7, 2015, God brought home another angel, Virginia Spence. Born February 11, 1943, she left us early at only 71 years old. She fought hard against Alzheimer's Disease, but the disease is cruel and still incurable. She is preceded in death by parents Raymond and Gnez Kerr and an older sister, Lodenna, who died as an infant. She leaves behind her husband, Walter (Aggie) Spence. Married for more than 53 years, they worked together side-by-side and loved each other every day. There was nothing that they wouldn't tackle as a team; everything from landscaping projects and gardening, to pouring concrete sidewalks, and wiring homes. Her daughter, Karen Spence, will carry her Mama's beautiful spirit in her heart every day. Virginia did everything in her power to be a wonderful mother and friend. She is also survived by her baby sister (who she considered her other daughter) Betty Jones (and husband Micky). She was honored to be a fantastic "Nene" to two granddaughters; Rachael and Rebecca Jones. She was surrounded by love throughout her life; Aggie, Karen, Betty, Rachael, Rebecca, and Virginia's Aunt Maxine Wilson (who had a special love and affection for her) will continue to honor her love and spirit. She is greatly missed by her extended family of Sharon, Mary Ann, and John Wood. Her best friend Linda Vananda always made her laugh and will miss their special bond. She is also survived by sisters Barbara Rutherford and Patsy Sullins, and brother Billy Kerr. Virginia dedicated her life to being a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, and Nene. She spent most of her hours being an incredible homemaker, and many hours devoted to substitute teaching, church treasury responsibilities, and support to the United Methodist Women. She was proud of her work, and we are all proud of her accomplishments. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 10, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home followed by a brief memorial service with Rev. Ken Tucker and music by Rev. Scott Linginfelter. A brief burial service will follow at Carpenter's United Methodist Church Cemetery. Special thanks go to the staff of The Village at Asbury Place for the excellent care and comfort they provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the charity of your choice.
