Victor Whitley

Victor Whitley died December 4, 2008, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born in Lancashire, England on January 7, 1922. He spent most of his childhood years in Ohio. He was a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, after serving 4 years in the Naval Air Corps. He was a flight instructor. He worked for Union Carbide Corporation in various capacities for 37 years, the last as Director of Employee Relations. He retired from New Canaan, CT to The Landings in Savannah, GA and resided there for 20 years before moving to Townsend, TN. Vic is preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Genovese; his father, Reginald Whitley and mother and step-father, Agnes and Jack Sayers. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Bertha M. Whitley; son and daughter-in-law, James C. and Georgiana Whitley; granddaughters, Kristy Gibson of Alexandria, VA, Victoria Wilkens of San Diego, CA; grandson, Peter Genovese of Columbia, MD; brother-in-law, Robert Robertson of Bakersfield, CA; and cousins in England and British Columbia; and his loyal companion, Maggie. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2008, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with Rev. Bob Beasley officiating. In lieu of flowers, his family requests contributions be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 314 W. Broadway, Maryville, TN 37801 or Blount Memorial Hospice, 1095 E.
