Thomas Allen May

Thomas Allen May, age 73, of Maryville, TN passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022. Tom moved to Maryville in May 2021 with his wife, Cindy Eldred; his cat, Mischa; and his nephew, Kyle Dunne. Tom loved his new home in Maryville and the community that he found here.

Tom loved the practice of law. Tom earned his juris doctorate degree cum laude from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, California in 1981. Tom was editor-in-chief of the Santa Clara Law Review. He was an Emery Scholar and completed an externship with Associate Justice Stanley Mosk of the California Supreme Court.

He practiced California real estate law for 18 years, specializing in real estate financings, before retiring in 2008 for medical reasons from the law firm of Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps in San Diego, California. Tom resumed the practice of law in 2014 with a small firm in San Diego and continued that practice remotely from Maryville until his death.

Tom was devoted to the United States Constitution. He spent countless hours studying Constitutional Law and American History, centered around the time of the Founding of the United States of America.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Cindy; his daughter, Rebecca McFadd Relyea; his sister, Becky May Brandon; his brother, Terry May; a large, extended family scattered across the country; and an extensive community of friends near and dear to Tom. He was happiest when cooking for friends and family and enjoying their company or listening to classic American Blues.
