Sue Morton Swann

April 5, 1921 — November 14, 2016

Sue Morton Swann passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016, a kind and beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Sue was born at 3903 Miser Station Rd on April 5, 1921. She was the 6th child of Granville Andrew (1884-1954) and Grace Talbott Morton (1888-1993), the grandchild of John D. and Mary Smith Morton and Wm Bennett and Martha Jane Wallace Talbott. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Eugene Swann (1907-1976), sisters Ruth Hall Riley, Madge Gideon, and Jean Smith as well as brothers John, Charles, Joe and Glen (Bud) Morton. She is survived by sons and daughters in law Art and Janet Swann, Joe and Becky Swann; grandchildren Tony and wife Angela Ellis, Will and Emily Swann and Bennett Swann as well as great-grandchild Preston Swann, 12 nieces and nephews including special nephew Robert Smith. Sue was co-valedictorian of Friendsville High School in 1939 and a graduate of Knoxville Business College. She and husband Eugene owned Cherokee Lumber Co in Maryville for many years. She first, and later all her sisters, had the good fortune to become acquainted with and hired by the late Ernest Koella, Sr, owner of Rockford Mfg Co., and they combined to work for the Koella family in the Rockford office from 1941 until the 1990's. From the 1970's until the 1990's Sue worked in Dr Jim Proffitt's office. Sue attended Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church as a child and New Providence Presbyterian Church for the remainder of her life. She became a life master of duplicate bridge and was a dedicated bridge player where she developed so many good friends over the years. She so loved her home on Court Street in Creekwood (1946-2015) and the many fine neighbors who were her dear friends that shared the happiness of raising families together in the 1950s and 60s. Special thanks to Brian Tuggle of Personal Care Choices, care givers Mandy Lewis and Laura Broderick and to the dedicated staff of Shannondale of Maryville. Family and friends will meet for a graveside service and interment at 3:00 PM, Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Emily Anderson officiating. Friends may call at their convenience at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to: New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 W Broadway, Maryville, TN 37801 or Everett Senior Center, 702 Burchfield St, Maryville, TN 37804.
