Shelby Presley Hord, 76, of Maryville, TN passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Shelby Jean Presley in Rogersville, (Hawkins County) TN to the Reverend Roy and Virginia Presley on February 5, 1943. Shelby was a graduate of Rogersville High School, Class of 1960. She left Rogersville in 1961, at the age of 18, bound for Washington, D.C. where she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for four years. She returned to Tennessee in 1965 to work in the Admissions Office at the University of Tennessee and to start a family. After leaving the University of Tennessee, Shelby was a stay-at-home mother until she began working at the Bank of Maryville in 1972. Shelby left the banking industry in 1977 to accept a position in the Employee Security Division at the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville and was there until she retired in 1988. She was then employed at Tennessee Associates International Consulting Firm in Maryville, TN from 1990 to 1995. After leaving TAI, Shelby accepted a management position with TJ Maxx in 1998 and retired from there in 2013.
Shelby was predeceased by her parents, the Reverend Roy and Virginia Presley; brothers George Presley and Morris Presley; and her husband of 37 years Thomas Hord.
Shelbys survivors include: son, Johnny Webb, Jr. of Maryville, TN; daughter, Stacie Webb Long (Tommy) of Lenoir City, TN; sisters, Sandy Mann (John) of Powell, TN and Betty Brown (Danny) of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Jeff Roberts, Jr., Rachel Roberts, Emma Webb, Jennifer Williams, Jessica Ward, Julianna Moore, Amanda Bush, and Laurel Bush; step-daughters, Kim Myers of Knoxville, TN, Dana Reynolds (John) of Knoxville, TN, and Julie Moore (Johnny) of Maryville, TN; sister-in-law, Mary Nell Campbell of Knoxville, TN, brother-in-law Ray Hord (Bea) of Knoxville, TN; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Marli.
Shelbys family would like to express our kindest and most sincere gratitude to our special friend Kim Rogers Luttrell for her constant support and care for Shelby and her family during her illness. The family also expresses our kindest and most sincere gratitude to the staff at Parkwest Hospital, Fort Sanders Hospital (especially cardiac nurses Leslie and Melissa), the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, the Blount Memorial Hospital cardiac floor team of nurses, the Blount Memorial Hospice team (especially Jan, Niki, Kalie,Taylor, and Kathryn), and caregiver Amber Medders for the loving care they all provided Shelby during her illness. The family would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all who prayed for and with her, came to visit her in the hospital and at home, sent cards with words of encouragement, brought food to the home, and offered to assist us in any way.
The family is receiving friends at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville, TN on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. A service to celebrate Shelbys life will be held immediately following at 7:00PM with the Reverend Joe Green officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Grandview Mausoleum on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 9:00AM for Shelbys entombment. In lieu of flowers, Shelby has requested that donations be made to the Blount County Animal Shelter, 233 Currie Avenue, Maryville, TN 37804.
