Sharon Lee Cate Curbow

July 11, 1947 — November 20, 2010

Sharon Lee Cate Curbow, born July 11, 1947 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and died unexpectedly and tragically on Saturday, November 20, 2010. Sharon spent her early years in Harriman, Tennessee and was the daughter of Lawrence and Hildred Liming Cate. She moved with her parents to Knoxville in 1959 and graduated from Powell High School in 1965 where she was involved in many clubs and school activities including being the head majorette with the Powell High Band. She attended the University of Tennessee. She worked at the Sevier County Chamber of Commerce briefly and at Gold Rush Junction and Camel Manufacturing. In 1981, and until her untimely death, she became the President of Central Communications & Electronics, Inc. in Knoxville and Alcoa. She and her husband moved to Friendsville in 1977. She was a thirty year survivor of breast cancer. Sharon was actively involved in many community activities, including PTOs at Middlesettlements Elementary and William Blount High and fund raising events of many types. She was an avid boater and long time participant of the Vol Navy; Lady Vol Boost-Her Club; and leaves many grieving and great friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Thelma Liming of Helena, Arkansas and Rueben and Grace Cate of Harriman; her parents Lawrence and Hildred Liming Cate. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Letitia and Scott Flynn and grandson, John Patrick Flynn of Maryville, daughter, Lauren Curbow of Maryville, brother, Larry Cate of Knoxville; brother-in-law, Gary Curbow and wife Judy of The Villages, Florida; many nieces and nephews; Alicia Curbow Defender and husband Jim of Knoxville; Krista Curbow Bebout and husband Geoff; and husband of thirty-five years, Tim Curbow. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Green officiating. The interment will follow in Louisville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. Wednesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville. She was a strong, independent Tennessee woman who would want, in lieu of flowers, contributions made to the Animal Works, 3377 Regal Drive in Northpark Industrial Park, Alcoa; St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.
