Sarah Rebecca Blankenship Darrell

Sarah Rebecca Blankenship Darrell died on December 5, 2020. Becky was born in Maryville, Tennessee to the late Harry Edward Blankenship and Evelyn Barker Blankenship on November 18, 1944. She was graduated from the University of Tennessee (Phi Beta Kappa) with a bachelor’s degree in geology. After returning to Maryville in the 1980s, Becky became interested in historical and genealogical research in Blount County. She served on the Board of Directors of Magnolia Cemetery for a number of years and was a member of the Blount County Genealogical and Historical Society. She contributed several articles to the Blount County Genealogical and Historical Society journal and contributed greatly to the level of knowledge regarding Black men who served in the Union Army and were buried in Blount County. She greatly enjoyed thanking veterans for their service to their country and collecting books to restore and give to children.

She is survived by her two sons, James H. Darrell, III (Glenda) of Cary, NC, and Harry T. Darrell (Laura) of Hoschton,GA as well as by her two granddaughters Eliza and Emily Darrell.

A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
