BUCKNER, Sarah Lois, age 92 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Shannondale Nursing Home. She was born and raised in the Armona Community, was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Blount County, Alcoa and retired from Oak Ridge City School where she taught kindergarten and first grade and also taught teachers in summer school at U. T. and Western Carolina University for several years. She was a member of Blount County and Oak Ridge Retired Teachers, Tennessee Retired Teachers Association, NEA, AARP, Sam Houston School House and Delta Kappa Gamma, and was an avid traveler and rock collector. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua and Laura Buckner; sisters, Grace Donaldson, Florence Kidd, May Counts; brother, Joshua Bucker, Henry Buckner; nephew, Lynn Counts. Survivors include her nieces, Alice Best, Alma Hall, Barbara Brown, Shirley Rogers and Bernita Herlihy; nephews, Robert J. Buckner, Billy Ray Buckner, Timothy Buckner, James Buckner, Brian Buckner, Myron Buckner, Tommy Buckner, Dr. Norris Counts; great nieces; great nephews; great great nieces; great great nephews; sisters-in-law, Billie Buckner, Mary Buckner. Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Old Mt. Tabor Cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Steve Musick officiating.
