Sarah Ann (Beatty) Cunningham Kulis

December 29, 1944 — February 12, 2025

Ft. Myers, FL

Sarah Ann (Beatty) Cunningham Kulis of Ft. Myers, Florida passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Born to Warren Lee Beatty and Lillian Martin Beatty on December 29, 1944, in Maryville, Tennessee.

She is survived by her husband of 13 years, LeRoy Howard Kulis and his children Cindy Shope (Don), Becky Reed (Steve), Suzy Wagnitz (Kurt) and Michael Kulis (Rebekah).

Sarah is predeceased by her husband and childhood sweetheart, Larry Hugh Cunningham. They were married for 43 years.

She was a loving mother to Rachel (Cunningham) Garretson and Jeff Cunningham and the “best mother-in-law” to Scott Garretson and Marcy Cunningham. A proud University of Tennessee graduate, Sarah taught elementary school. She spent a lifetime teaching us many life lessons, supporting and loving us unconditionally.

She loved her role as “Mimi” to Zachary Garretson (Macey Garretson), Bailey (Garretson) Compton (Nick Compton), Molly Garretson and Hudson Cunningham. Mimi enjoyed throwing elaborate tea parties for her grandkids, playing games and was a proud cheerleader at their sporting events. She cherished being a great-grandmother to Bentley and Cash Garretson, cuddling them as babies and receiving lots of kisses.

Sarah is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Janis Cunningham, nieces and nephews, and missed by many friends.

Sarah loved a good social event and was spotted dancing at her granddaughter's wedding in June. She recently blew out the candles of her 80th birthday cake! Speaking of desserts, she never met one she didn’t like - especially if it was chocolate!

She adored meeting Decatur and Forest friends for lunch. Sarah is fondly remembered for her kindness, creativity, decorating prowess, entertaining finesse and love/hate relationship with golf.
