Samuel Jackson Kyker II, age 74 of Maryville, TN, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024,
surrounded by his family. Sam was born on February 2, 1950, to parents Samuel “Jack” Kyker and Linda Elaine Johnson in
Loudon, TN. After graduating from Roane County High School in 1968, Sam went on to earn a Bachelor
of Science degree in Biology at Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1972. He furthered his educational
pursuit with a Master’s of Science from the University of Tennessee in 1976.
Sam was a lifelong educator in the Blount County school system teaching various science disciplines
at Union Elementary, Walland High School, and Heritage High School for 40 years. Known by many as
Coach, Sam impacted the lives of many young people through the sports of swimming, basketball,
baseball, and football. He also enjoyed taking his sons on hiking, fishing and camping trips.
Sam is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon Lamon Kyker; his sons, Samuel “Chad” Kyker
(Carrie) of Lebanon, IN, and Kent Kyker (Suzanne) of Farragut, TN; his grandchildren, Samuel H.,
Sophia, Simon, Ben, and Kate; sister Janey Stevens and step-sister Nancy Johnson.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 15, at New Providence
Presbyterian Church in Maryville, TN, with a receiving of friends to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family
asks that donations be made to:
