ALLEN, Samuel C., age 94, died Monday, November 21, 2005, at his daughter’s home where he was residing in Decatur, TN. Reared in Valley Falls, Kansas, Sam was the son of the late Sam Allen and Myrtle Anderson Allen. Retired USAF Chief Master Sergeant, Sam began his military career with the U. S. Marines in 1935. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and came to Maryville to McGhee Tyson Air Base in 1955. He was appointed Maintenance Advisor to the Air National Guard at McGhee Tyson, and after retirement from the U. S. Air Force, he continued to work with the Guard through Civil Service. Sam was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church for 50 years. A beloved husband and father, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Myrtis Wood Allen. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth A. and Jim Mercer of Decatur, TN, and his sister and brother-in-law, Margie Jean and Roy Lee Redding of Towanda, Illinois. The interment service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at the New Providence Presbyterian Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at New Providence Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Philip Bembower and the Rev. J. Steven Musick officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to a library of your choice or to New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 West Broadway, Maryville, TN 37801.
