BOWMAN, Ruth C., age 88 of Maryville, born November 17, 1917 in Livingston, TN, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2006, at her home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Maryville. She attended Milligan College and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1940. She taught school in Fort Gaines, GA until accepting a place with the Alabama Extension Services as Assistant Home Agent in Walker County in February, 1941. She went to Clay County as Home Agent in October, 1941. She left Campbell County as Home Agent in 1946, and married James Gleason Bowman, June 1, 1946. She returned to teaching, as a Home Economics teacher at Everett High School. After taking a few years off in the late 50's to start a family, she began teaching Home Economics at Eagleton Junior High, where she taught until retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James Gleason Bowman; father and mother, Jesse and Addie Crabtree; brothers, Gordon Crabtree of Kingsport, TN, Paris Crabtree of Chattanooga, TN, Hoy Crabtree of Livingston, TN; sisters, Iva Gilliam of Lake Village, AR, Lillian Dobras of Maryville, TN. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Melanie Bowman of Oak Ridge, TN; son, Tom Bowman of Maryville, TN; grandchildren, John Bowman of Maryville, TN, Jessica Overby of Pensacola, FL, Angie Hoekema of Jacksonville, FL, Tara Armstrong of Maryville, TN, Ashley Oaks of Elizabethton, TN; great grandchildren, Garrett, Emily and Ethan Armstrong, Trace, Suzanne, Matthew and Joey Overby; brother, Herman Crabtree of Livingston, TN; sister, Loraine Gleason of Sacramento, CA. The family would like to thank Pat Hardiman and Courtney Dunlap for all their care, love and support to Ruth and her family during her illness. The family would also like to thank Extended Family Services, Home Health Care, Hospice and Dr. David Calvert for all their love and support. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.
