Romer Vernon Volk

Romer Vernon Volk, age 97 of Alcoa, passed away February 24, 2014 at Shannondale Retirement Community, Maryville, Tennessee.He was born February 2, 1917 in Cottage, New York, the son of William and Ulrica Volk. Mr. Volk was a graduate of South Dayton, NY High School and graduated from Alfred University College of Ceramics as a ceramic engineer. He was an engineer with ALCOA at plants in Niagara Falls, NY, Queens, NY, Burlington, NJ and Alcoa, TN retiring in 1977. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Frances Waith Volk, his parents, five brothers Alton, John, Albert, William, and Gordon, and two sisters Irene and Pauline. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Donald and Beatrice Elaine Dawson of Woodinville, WA and Tommy and Carol George of Somerville, TN. Also surviving are five grandchildrenMatthew Dawson of Seattle, WA, Tim and Becca Dawson of Kenmore, WA, Dave and Hailey Dawson of Tustin, CA, Leigh Carol Dawson of Seattle, WA and Austin George of Chicago, IL; six great-grandchildren Caleb and Levi Dawson, Chase, Lance, Reece and Rio Dawson. Mr. Volk was a member of Alcoa First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing his tenor banjo and for several years played with friends at several area nursing homes. He also enjoyed repairing clocks and watches for his friends. He was a long time member of NAWCC watch and clock organization. Funeral services will be at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Sunday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Bruce Marston officiating. Internment will be private at Grandview Cemetery.
