Bob Cannon, age 86 of Maryville, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. He was a member of Maryville First United Methodist Church where he was an active member of the Garst Sunday School class and the Chancel Choir. He was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Navy. Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Bob graduated from Jonesboro High School where he was active in basketball and football. He graduated in 1949 from Georgia Tech with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of Chi Epsilon. His Civil Engineering career spanned 32 years, working for Alcoa Aluminum Company and Tennessee Valley Authority. He retired from TVA in 1982 and began his own Engineering Consulting Service. He was preceded in death by parents, I. J. and Beulah Cannon; brothers, John and Winston. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jane; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lin; son, Bob, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Kenny Hodson; grandchildren, Kirsten Leigh Cannon, Joanna Cannon, Kari Leigh Hodson, Matt Hodson and wife Kadena; great grandchildren, Marisa Leigh Bowers, Aiden Cannon Hodson, and Hallie Rosner. A private family interment service will be held at Grandview Mausoleum. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, December 9, at 6:00 p.m. at Maryville First United Methodist Church with Pastors Brenda and Larry Carroll officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Maryville First United Methodist Church’s Music Ministries, 804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, TN 37803. The family would like to thank Colonial Hill’s staff and caregivers for all of their love and support during Bob’s stay at the nursing center.
