Robert W. Bailes, age 92, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, February 16, 2017, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Bob was born January 29, 1925 in Knoxville, TN. He was a long time member of Fairview United Methodist Church. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and served as a combat training instructor and later served in the South Pacific. He worked for the Bell System for 39 years and retired in 1984 as East Tennessee District Plant Manager. Bob was proud to be a part of the Greatest Generation. Preceded in death by loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Gilmer Bailes and parents, James R. and Martha W. Bailes. Survived by his children: Mark and Jan, Robby and Dawn, Amy and Keith McCord, Kelly and Tina, Scotty; grandchildren; Casey (Jennifer), Leah McCord, Kelly Jo Wallace (Carlos), Andy, Meg McCord, Tyler (Nicole), Sam, Mac McCord (Samantha), Annie, Ellie, Jake; great grandchildren, Addison McCord, Carter Wallace, Josie Bailes, Evelyn Bailes, Walker McCord; also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and friends. Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday at Fairview United Methodist Church with Rev. Mickey Rainwater officiating. Receiving of friends will follow the service. Family and friends will meet at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview Cemetery for the interment service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Fairview United Methodist Church.
