Richard C. Finney (Dick), age 88, of Maryville, passed away on March 2, 2016. He was born January 29, 1928 in Erie, Pennsylvania to Hosea E. and Florence Cochran Finney. Dick was an Army veteran, and then joined ROTC in college at Penn State University where he graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1952. His 37-year career with Alcoa Aluminum included engineering positions in Davenport, IA, Pittsburgh, PA, Richmond, IN and Alcoa, TN where he retired as the Engineering Manager of Tennessee Operations in 1989. Professionally, Dick served on the Engineering Advisory Boards for both Tennessee Tech University and the University of Tennessee. He was a member of 1st United Methodist Church in Maryville and volunteered with Blount County Habitat for Humanity. An avid boater, Dick loved nothing more than a day on the water with family and friends. Dick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marolyn Hammond Finney; three sons: Bruce Finney (Sioux), Scott Finney (Michelle), and Todd Finney (Shaunna); four grandchildren: Stephen Finney, Rebecca Finney, Brandon Finney, Cheyenne Finney and step-granddaughter Whitney Derrick. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 1:00 pm in Grandview Cemetery Chapel on Tuesday, March 15, Rev. Catherine Nance officiating. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in Wesley Hall at 1st United Methodist Church, Maryville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holston United Methodist Home for Children (PO Box 188/Greeneville, TN) or a charity of your choice.
