Brownlie, Richard Anthony, age 79 of Walland, passed away after a courageous year and a half battle with cancer on Friday, June 30, 2023. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and a good friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Smith Asher Brownlie and Annabelle Johnson Brownlie, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Judith Jones Brownlie; his children, Rick and Carmen Brownlie, David and Phuong Brownlie, Beth and David Ballard, Andrew and Elizabeth Brownlie, and Steve and Jen Ballard. He was lovingly known as Bampa to grandchildren, Megan Hindman and husband Josh, Logan Brownlie, David Ballard III and wife Taylor, Elijah Ballard and wife Erin, Grace Ballard, Matthew Brownlie, Asher and Monty Brownlie, Kristiana Brownlie, and Sydney Ballard; and great-grandchildren, Aiden and Avery Hindman. He was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and worked for Delta Airlines for 32 years- 23 years in Knoxville and 9 years in Tampa, FL- before retiring to his little patch of heaven in Walland. He and Judy enjoyed many trips to his second favorite place, Cornwall, England, where they made many lifelong friends and wonderful memories. He alway looked forward to in retirement Monday night dinners with friends at Waterfront, monthly breakfasts with highschool friends at T.C.’s Grill, and working on the valley farm with Allen Martin for many years. Rick lived his life to the fullest and made lasting friendships throughout his work, travels, and while receiving superb care at the UT Cancer Center and Infusion Services. He will be remembered by his wife in many ways as a classmate who later in life became her husband. Families merged and they proceeded to travel the world and always encouraged their children and grandchildren to travel with them. He loved his family and spending time with them. Whether it was fishing, cookouts, or providing shuttle service for his grandchildren, he enjoyed every minute.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 23rd at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Receiving friends will be from 1:00-3:00pm with a Remembrance service at 3:00pm. Rick chose cremation and there will be a private family service at Grandview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to a charity of your own choosing, the American Cancer Society, or Friends of the Smokies.
