Rebecca Mary LeQuire Buchanan, 97, born July 16, 1910 in the Prospect Section of Blount County died Feb. 13, 2008 at Blount Memorial Hospital after a short illness.She was preceded in death by her parents Amos Justice LeQuire and Charlotte Hutchenson McHenry LeQuire, her husband of 30 years Edgar Buchanan, and daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Buchanan. Her three children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive her. They are: James Edgar Buchanan and his wife Beverly Tubbs Buchanan (Millersville, MD); Rebecca Mary Snoderly and her husband Dr. Robert Mack Snoderly (Clyde, NC); William Olin Buchanan and his wife Sarah Prentiss Buchanan (Atlanta, GA). The grandchildren and great grandchildren are: Brent Edgar Buchanan (Longmont, CO.); Carol Lynn Buchanan Golden and her husband Kevin Golden and their children Grant Dean, Connor James and Jack Harrison Golden (Fairfax, VA); Bert Dean Buchanan and his wife Misty Buchanan (Hurricane, WV.); Anna Snoderly Mills and her husband William Ambrose Mills, III and their children Kate and William Ambrose Mills, IV (Asheville, NC); Laura Lee Snoderly (Raleigh, NC) and Margaret Keith Buchanan (Atlanta, GA) Mary spent her early years near Prospect and then Perry’s Mill where she attended Porter Academy and Rocky Branch School. When she was 14 she and her family moved to Maryville where she attended Fort Craig School and Everett High School. She met her future husband, Edgar Buchanan, at the Tipton Farm in Chilhowee and they were married in 1928. She worked at Maryville College’s Student Union and Cafeteria for 14 years before retiring in 1972. She was a member of Peck Memorial Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was a noted quilter and a skilled craftsperson. She treasured her East Tennessee and Cades Cove Heritage. She was always the first to give more than she was asked to friend, neighbor or family; her generous and cheerful soul was loved by all. Her funeral service is planned for Saturday at 11 a.m. at the McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with Dr. Mack Turner and Rev. Ken Tucker, Jr. officiating. The interment at Grandview Cemetery will follow.
