Rebecca Lynn Koella

July 19, 1941 — April 14, 2011

April 16, 2011 Rebecca Lynn Myers Koella of Sevierville, Townsend and Rockford died peacefully in her sleep on April 14, 2011. Ms. Koella, known affectionately as Becky, was preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn Douglas Myers and Herbert Myers. Survivors include son Carl Koella III and wife Beth; son Richard Z. Koella and wife Eliza; daughter Abby Koella; sister Barbara (Susie) Bowman; brother Doug Myers; adopted brother Otha Gene Frye; grandchildren whom she loved more than anything: Kathryn Grace Koella, Carolyne Koella, and Hunter Pickle; nephews Mike Akard, Kris Myers, and Paul Myers; special friend Tom Brandon; and many loving aunts, cousins, and lifelong friends. Becky was born in Maryville on July 19, 1941, graduated from Townsend High School, attended the University of Tennessee and Maryville College, helped found Peninsula Hospital, operated a popular Bed and Breakfast (Wayside Manor), and received many top honors-including President’s Club Legend- at her current employer Wyndham Vacation Resorts, where she had many dear friends. As a pupil of Jim Gray, Becky was an accomplished artist whose spectacular oil paintings of her beloved Great Smoky Mountains and Cades Cove, where her father was born, hang in places of honor in homes of family and friends. Becky was a phenomenal cook whose recipes, meals, and celebrations will never be forgotten. She had a huge heart and welcomed people of all stations into her home. No one ever left her home hungry or without a friend. Always photogenic, Becky was one of the few people on earth whose driver’s license and passport photos were attractive. Becky had an extraordinary energy level (running circles around those 20 years younger) and worked cheerfully her entire life. As a childhood charter member of the “Can Do Club”, she proved that she didn’t have a lazy bone in her body, but she rarely took enough time to treat herself well. Becky loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and will celebrate her 70th birthday in heaven with Him instead of with us. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 132 Bethel Church Rd, Townsend TN 37882; Smoky Mountain Animal Care Foundation POB 7218 Maryville, TN 37802, or Children International, PO Box 219055 Kansas City, MO 64121. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Maryville with Pastor Steve Linginfelter officiating.
