Ralph Edward Miller, 82, passed away peacefully with family on November 17, 2023. Memorial service will be Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 4:00 PM at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
Ralph was preceded in death by his son, Mark Edward Miller, his parents W. C. & Georgia Miller, brothers George Miller, Jim(Chew) Miller, Bill Miller, Bob Miller, sister Hazel Miller, nephew Scott Miller, niece Tami Miller West He is survived by his wife, Martha McCarter Miller, and his children and their spouses Emily & Greg Capps, Randy & Leah Miller, and Eric & Susan Miller, his grandchildren and their spouses Morgan Miller Wol, Katie & Ryan Jorgensen, Mary Alison & Seth Sides, Molly Capps, Emma Capps & Kai Xin, Loran & Logan Ingram, and Austin Miller. His great-grandchildren include Mila and Marlee Wol and Hadley Ingram. He is also survived by brothers and sisters Clara Davis, Lida Cooke, Elizabeth Morgan, Henry Miller, Linda Miller, and Charles Miller and several nieces and nephews.
Ralph was born and raised in Townsend, TN. He attended Porter High School. Ralph served briefly in the Army National Guard beginning in 1956. He entered the USMC in July, 1958, and he served as a Small Arms Technician. Ralph deployed to Thailand in 1959 to serve in an advisory role prior to the Vietnam War. He served in Thailand for one year and then was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, NC. Ralph earned his Honorable Discharge from the USMC in July, 1962.
Ralph served as a police officer with the City of Atlanta Police Department from 1962-1966, he also served with the Alcoa Police Department from 1966-1972. He began serving in the Tennessee Air National Guard as a mechanic in the motor pool with the 119th Tactical Control Squadron. While serving with the 119th, Ralph began working for British Tyre and Rubber Company (BTR). Ralph retired from the Tennessee Air National Guard in October, 1991. He retired from BTR in 1999. His final job was working with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office providing security to the entrance of Heritage High School. He spent four years with BCSO from 2017 to 2021, which he said was his favorite job of his career. He was a long-time member of Broadway Baptist Church.
