Pearson Butler

May 18, 1933 — September 13, 2022

Henry Pearson Butler, 89, of Carpenters Campground, was at home with his family when he heard the Lord call his name on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.

He was preceded in death by parents, Isaac Edmondson and Lillie Garland Butler; brothers: Clifford, Garfield, and Otha; sisters: Geneva Butler and Marie Rogers; daughter-in-law, Donna Dotson Butler; granddaughter Bethaney Butler; and close nephew, Barnum Butler. He is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Kathleen Coning Butler; sons: William (Robin True) Butler and James Butler; niece he called “the daughter I never had”: Teresa Swaney Edmondson; grandchildren: Tyler (Autumn) Butler of Kenmore, Washington and Megan Butler of Knoxville; close nephews: Troy Butler and his son Troy Lee Butler.

He was a Korean War veteran, seeing active combat in Korea with the Army. He was a skilled mechanic, starting with White Star Bus Lines in Maryville and culminating with Ace Transmission in Knoxville, a business he co-founded and co-operated. In “retirement” he operated Butler Produce in Madisonville, delivered produce for Butler Farm, and operated The Coon Den, a wildlife sanctuary.

For decades he pursued a passion for hunting, especially coon hunting. His many adventures with many different hunting partners are legendary, as they chased ringtails in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and regions beyond. When no longer able to hunt, he and his wife were often seen on local roads, looking for and counting the game they saw. Their favorite destination was Cades Cove, often going 3-4 times a week, and more often when the bears were visible.

His life dramatically altered in 1988, when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord. Going to church and reading the Bible became significant parts of his life. For the last several years, he was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church. Many have spoken of his positive impact on their lives.

Friends may pay their respects and sign the guest register at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home on Sunday, September 18, from 12:00 to 3:00 PM and Monday, September 19, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Family and friends will gather at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Carpenters Campground Cemetery for a graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, honor Pearson by passing on his love of the Lord Jesus Christ to those who don’t serve Him, and by caring for your family.
