Pauline A. “Polly†Christofferson In Loving Memory Christofferson, Pauline “Polly†age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Shannondale Nursing Home in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 6. She was cherished and protected by her husband, Dr. Bill Christofferson, and will be sorely missed by him, their four children, Mary Christofferson, Carol Christofferson, Chris Christofferson and Kathy Wollman, her two grandchildren, Jaime-Chris and Andrew Wollman, her sister, Barbara Kessler, and extended family and friends. Until illness sadly overcame Polly toward the end of her life, she passionately explored the world through literature, art, music, religion, and especially nature. To discover and protect even a single, rare wildflower in the Smokies gave her such joy. To collect from childhood the evolving history of the U.S. through its stamps and coins was her special delight. But Polly’s zest for life was, first and foremost, to promote education - that a broad knowledge opened the door to independent, rational decisions and an appreciation for our differences. Her children and grandchildren are so grateful for her guiding example; that an intrepid curiosity and sense of responsibility for a better world around us must matter. The Christofferson family knows it would please Polly enormously that any fond remembrance be a contribution to the Blount County Public Library. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Our Lady Fatima Catholic Church with Father Patrick Resen officiating. The interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
