PFLANZE, Otto Paul, age 88 of Bloomington, IN, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007, at his residence. He was born on April 2, 1918 in Maryville, TN to the late Otto Paul Pflanze, Sr. and Katrine(Mills) Pflanze. Otto served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a Professor of Modern European History (19th Century Germany) at New York University, University of Minnesota, Indiana University and Bard College. He was recipient of many prizes and scholarships for his work in 19th Century Germany and received international recognition for his seminal study of Otto von Bismarck. Otto is survived by his wife, Hertha Pflanze of Bloomington; his sons, Stephen Pflanze of Lake Forest, CA, Charles Pflanze of St. Paul, MN; his daughter, Katrine Pflanze-Hatfull of Pittsburgh, PA; his sister, Eleanor Graham of Winter Haven, FL; his grandsons, Frederick Knight-Hatfull, Roger Hatfull; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Magnolia Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Dr. Emily Anderson officiating. A reception will follow the service at The Palace Theatre. Memorials may be made to Maryville College, 502 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804.
