Norman Arnold McKinnon III, 52, died at home, in peace, surrounded by family and friends in San Clemente, CA on August 11, 2007, of cancer. He was born October 4, 1954 in New Orleans, but grew up in Maryville where he was senior class president, attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and founded and coached the Flying Dolphins Swim Team. He went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee and then received his master’s from Pepperdine University. Norman was a deeply spiritual person who loved the outdoors, music, swimming and hiking. He was a tremendous source of inspiration and will be greatly missed, always loved and appreciated by his family and many friends. Preceded in death by grandparents, Rhue and Norman Arnold McKinnon, Elma Morrison, Colonel William Daniel Morrison, uncle, James Leverette, uncle, Robert Morrison, uncle, William Morrison Jr. and aunt, Ann Morrison. He is survived by wife, Stephanie, his son Zachary, his former wife, Susan Buckler and husband Steve, his mother, Mary McKinnon, father, Dr. Norman Arnold McKinnon, Jr. and wife Wanda, aunt, Nadine McKinnon Leverette, step-grandmother, Kay Morrison, brothers, Bruce McKinnon, Bill McKinnon and wife Alison, cousins, Dan Morrison and wife Vicki, Barry Morrison and wife Theresa, Charlotte Morrison, Cliff Leverette and wife Suzette, Lynn and Will Morrison, Julia and Angela Leverette, and Zach’s brother Max Buckler. A memorial service will be held at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, 1:00 P.M. on Friday August 31, 2007. A gathering of friends will follow at the Chilhowee Club, 223 Clarion St., Maryville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “McKinnon Healing Fund” where Zach will creatively determine appropriate organizations to contribute or a charity of your choice.
