Monie Etheleen (Bullard) Newman, age 66, lost her 3 years courageous battle with ovarian cancer at home surrounded by devoted family Thursday night, August 18, 2011. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Over the years, she played the piano and sang with several gospel groups and the Dean Mitchell country music group in Gatlinburg. Her beautiful voice has now joined in that Heavenly choir. Monie Etheleen was preceded in death by her dad, Rev. Franklin Bullard; grandparents, Bob and Lylah Bullard. She is survived by her husband, Donnie R. Newman of Knoxville; mother, Mrs. Franklin (Monie) Bullard of Maryville; children, Jama Carver of Knoxville and son Brian and wife Rachel Urban of Maryville; stepchildren, Terri White (daughter Whitney) and Ritchie and wife Tammy Newman of Knoville (son Jake); sister, Loretta and husband Lonnie Tidwell of Maryville; special niece, Robin Tidwell of Knoxville and special nephew, Mike and wife Annette Tidwell of Alcoa, children, Nicole and Hunter; grandchildren, Houston, Makayla, Meghan, Hayden and Maya Carver; friend and ex-husband, James Urban of Florida. Survived by many friends and relatives. A special thanks to Dr. Tom Morgan, nurse, Lisa Hughes and the nurses at Thompson’s Cancer Center at Ft. Sanders Hospital in Knoxville; Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, on Ed Davis Road, with funeral service following at 8:00 p.m. with Ministers Allen Burchfield and Terry Nelson officiating.
