Miriam Bedinger Williamson, age 94, of Maryville, Tennessee, died April 16, 2014, at Asbury Place. She was born on November 18, 1919, in Asheville, North Carolina, when her parents were on furlough from their mission station in the Belgian Congo. She was a graduate of Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Georgia, BA, 1941, Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Richmond, Virginia, Master's degree, 1943, and attended the School of Library Sciences of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, 1970. She was a Kindergarten Teacher at Presbyterian Italian Mission, Kansas City, Missouri, 1943-44, and Medical Librarian at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, 1972-89. Her volunteer work included Adult Literary Program, Contact Teleministry, First Offender Program, sewing for residents at Asbury Acres, Bible teacher for Church School Classes and Women's Circle meetings at New Providence Presbyterian Church where she was a member. She was predeceased by her parents the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Robert D. Bedinger and sisters Martha Reid Bedinger and Julia Bedinger Powell. She is survived by sister Clare Bedinger Baldwin of Atlanta, Georgia; special cousin Bernard R. Smith of Asheville, North Carolina; sons the Rev. Robert L. Williamson, Jr. and wife Jean of Seymour, John B. Williamson of Houston, Texas, Thomas R. Williamson and wife Trish of Maryville; daughter Ellen Williamson Johnston and husband Keith of Wilson, North Carolina; grandchildren Chris Williamson, Robyn Williamson Pollette, Miki Williamson Johnson, Jeremy Criswell, Kimberly Johnston Rowe, Andrew Johnston, Sayer Williamson, Kelsey Williamson Humphrey; and great grandchildren Haley Williamson, Meredith and Maddy Pollette, Aaron and Annika Johnson, Alex and Stella Criswell, and Ava Williamson. The Memorial Service will be held at New Providence Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 26, at 11:00 AM and will be officiated by Pastors Emily Anderson, Steve Musick, and Stan Rushing. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Providence Presbyterian Church Library or a charity of choice.
