Minnie Evelyn Mathis Mcmurray

Minnie Evelyn Mathis McMurray, 82, passed away Thursday afternoon with her loving family by her side. Evelyn was a selfless, giving woman who always had a kind word and a smile for every person she met. Her big, boisterous family was the most important thing in her life and she loved the holidays when her home was overflowing with love and laughter. She never met a stranger and treated everyone like family - and once you were family, you were always family to Evelyn. You would be offered a meal or a snack and she would always ask, "Did you get enough to eat?". Evelyn worked side by side with her husband Luke for 30 + years at Harrison's Shoe Shop and thoroughly enjoyed all of her customers. Preceded in death by: infant brother Ernest; father, Beecher Mathis; mother, Beatrice Mathis McAlexander "Mamaw Bea"; step-father Herbert McAlexander. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 42 years, Luke McMurray; children & spouses: Susan & Lynn Effler, Becky & Mike Willis, Jackie & Sharon McMurray, Lisa & Jerry Wilburn, Kathy & David Dunn and Tina & Larry Alexander. Grandchildren: Jason Effler & fiancee Shannon, Jenni McCall & husband Jon, Robin Cardwell & boyfriend Jason, Rachel McMurray, Eric Dunn, Tabatha Dunn, Andrew Dunn, Josh Alexander & wife Ashlee, Justin Alexander and Brittany Alexander. Great-grandchildren Madison Effler, Bryce Long, Zander Melton, Owen McCall, Whitney Fitzgerald Darnell, Jordan Fitzgerald, Caleb Riggs, Olivia Riggs, Lucas Alexander & Peyton Alexander; brother Jim "Alvin" Mathis; many nieces and nephews; brothers in law & sisters in law; many who considered her a second mother or grandmother; and her devoted pup Lottie. Special thanks to the staff of Asbury Place and Caris Healthcare for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Evelyn and to the family. Also, to "Preacher David" David Long for being such a special and caring friend to Evelyn for so many years. The family will receive friends Monday, August 22nd from 5 pm to 7pm at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, 220 W. Broadway Avenue in Maryville 865-982-6812. Service will follow at 7pm with Preacher David Long presiding. The family will gather at the graveside Tuesday morning at 10am at Dotson Memorial Baptist Church for internment.
