Michael Hindes, 74, of Friendsville, Tennessee, passed away suddenly on March 12,2025, at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville. Born on April 12,1950, Michael lived a rich and purposeful life, rooted in service, family, and a deep passion for uplifting others.
A man of strong principles and a steadfast heart, Michael devoted his career to helping others in times of need. He served as a police officer in New Hampshire, where he upheld the law with integrity and compassion. Later, he transitioned into the healthcare field, rising to the role of director, where he brought leadership, vision, and care to those under his guidance. Whether in uniform or in the halls of healthcare, Michael led with a calm strength and a commitment to making a lasting difference.
Beyond his professional life, Michael had a lifelong love for the game of volleyball. He was a fierce and talented competitor who played at a high level for many years, and he poured his heart into coaching women's high school and college teams. His mentorship shaped not just athletes, but strong, confident individuals whose lives were better for knowing him.
Michael also had a deep and abiding love for animals, and he found joy and comfort in their loyal companionship. His home in Friendsville was not only a haven for his beloved pets, but also a place of warmth and welcome for his neighbors. He shared meaningful friendships within his community, where he was known for his kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Hindes, who stood by his side with unwavering devotion. He is also remembered by his brother, Judson, of Florida; his children, Michael T. and Lauren, both of Colorado; his stepson Brent, along with Brent's fiance Sara and their daughter Scarlette; and his stepson Nathan, with his wife Jessica and their son Gabriel.
Michael's life was defined by service, compassion, and a quiet, enduring love for those around him. He was a protector, a mentor, a friend, and a man who left the world better than he found it. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him—in every life he touched and in every soul he lifted.
