Melvin Owen Luttrell, Jr.

Melvin Owen Luttrell, Jr, age 85, of Maryville, TN passed away surrounded by family on October 9, 2022. Mel was born on August 6, 1937, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was retired from the Tennessee Education Association where he served as UniServ Coordinator for 42 years. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and served in the US Navy on the U.S.S Theodore E. Chandler and U.S.S Coral Sea. Mel was an elder at New Providence Presbyterian Church, a member of the East Tennessee Historical Society, was active with the Historic Ramsey House, and enjoyed being a member of the Knoxville Civil War Round Table. Mel served as President of the Blount County Retired Teachers’ Association, as well as the President of the Tennessee Retired Teachers’ Association. He was an avid UT football fan and proud supporter of any and all activities involving his grandsons. Mel is preceded in death by his first wife of 28 years Ethel Johnson Luttrell, parents M.O. Luttrell, Sr and Dora Hacker Luttrell, and brother Jack. 

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Reba Eades Luttrell, son Andy Luttrell and wife Tracy, son Bradley Luttrell, M.D. and wife Lindsay Luttrell, M.D, stepson Jeff Wilson and wife Julie, and grandsons Bryce Luttrell, Owen Luttrell, and Parker Luttrell.

The family will have a memorial service at New Providence Presbyterian Church, Maryville TN, on Sunday, October 23 at 4:00 pm followed by a reception at the church.
