Max Earl Mize

Max Earl Mize, born November 24, 1921, died peacefully at Blount Memorial Hospital on his 93rd birthday, November 24, 2014. Born in Sharps Chapel in Union County, he moved to Maryville with his family in 1937 when TVA purchased the family farm. He served in the Navy in World War II and was awarded several medals including World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal W/1 Bronze Star, European-Africian Middle Eastern Campaign W/4 Bronze Stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Discharge Button, Honorable Service Lapel Pin (Ruptured Duck), Amphib Force Insignias. He was an active member of Monte Vista Baptist Church since 1955 where he served on numerous committees. He loved and looked forward to his Sunday School Class and the fellowship with everyone. He was retired from ALCOA where he worked as an Electrician for 41 years and was a member of the 25 Year Club. He was a part time farmer that raised black Angus cattle. He was awarded the Part Time Farmer of the Year by Blount County Soil Conservation in 1982. He was also a member of Blount County Beef Association. He was preceded in death by infant son, Robert Earl; parents, Ernest and Lily Witt Mize; brothers, Glen E. and James Fred. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Jimmie Fugate Mize; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Doyle Dunlap; loving granddaughter, Emily Louise Dunlap; nieces, Terry Palmer, Helen Wagner, Amy Woods, and Janie Haley; sister-in-law, Wanda Mize. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Mantooth and Rev. Bob Dalton officiating. The interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monte Vista Baptist Church Building Fund.
