Maryann Bork

August 12, 1932 — November 15, 2005

Maryann Bork, of Loudon, TN passed away November 15, 2005. She was born on August 12, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan and was daughter of Joseph and Ethel Bork, both who predeceased her. She is survived by sisters Loretta and Margaret and brothers Norbert, Alvin & Richard and 22 nieces and nephews. Maryann retired from General Motors as an executive after 42 years of service. Her many hours of dedicated volunteer service included the Project Hope, which she continued even after her move to Tennessee. Maryann was a dedicated advocate and tireless volunteer for Tennessee libraries and local friends of the Library groups. She was past president, Secretary and Chair of the Advisory Committee for the Friends of Tennessee Libraries; an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the support of libraries and Friends groups in the state. Maryann spent much of her time, energy and resources traveling across the state, organizing local Friends of the Library groups. She was President from 1994 - 1998 of Tellico Village Library Friends Group. Her own Friends of the Library at Tellico Village, TN was responsible for the forming of the Tellico Village Library, the only library in the state supported solely by a Friends group. Maryann worked diligently to get Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in every community in Tennessee. Because of her vision and through her efforts, many childrenreceive these wonderful books from birth to their 5th birthday. Maryann was a member of the Tennessee Library Association, and Trustee for both Loudon County Library and Fort Loudon Regional Library. Memorial Services will be held on November 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Church in Tellico Village. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to either of three libraries: Friends of Tennessee Libraries, Friend of Tellico Village Building Fund, Friends of Vonore Library or to Project HOPE league of Metropolitan Detroit (248-646-1910).
