Mary Sue Cox Tipton

January 30, 1928 — December 4, 2012

Mary Sue Cox Tipton age 84 of Maryville went to be with Jesus on Tuesday December 4, 2012 at Asbury Health Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.V. and Addie Cox, siblings Nell Cutshaw, Alice Tilley, Floy Tidwell, L.V. ''Sonny'' Cox Jr., and Daisy Thomas. Survived by: devoted and loving husband of 61 years Hewlette Ray Tipton Sr., children Kimberly Marlene Garner and husband Michael; Hewlette Ray Tipton Jr. and wife Lisa; and James Louis Tipton. Grandchildren: Alison Garner Hiday and husband Justin; Lara Garner; Sarah Tipton; Matthew Tipton and wife Katy; Elizabeth Tipton Burgess and husband Adam; David Tipton; and Cody Tipton Great-grandson Ethan Michael Hiday; step-great granddaughter Madison Russell Sisters Wanda Gibson and Patsy Hutson; Sister-in-law Mildred Eaves; numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Mary Sue attended Everett High School and pursued a nursing career after attending Memphis Baptist Nursing school. She was a devoted employee at Blount Memorial and at Asbury Health Center for over 50 years as an R.N. She was a caring and compassionate caregiver to countless patients during her career. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Maryville where she enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in Golden Agers activities. Mary Sue was known by all for her hospitality, generosity, and spirit of service. The Receiving of Friends will be at Mcammon-Ammons Click Funeral Home Saturday December 8th from 1-3 pm. Her Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 3pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. All female guests are invited to wear hats to the Celebration of Life Service in honor of Mary Sue, who was affectionately known as the ''Hat Lady'' by all her friends and family. Burial will follow the service at Grandview Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be given in Mary Sue's honor to First Baptist Church Maryville, the American Cancer Society, and the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
