Mary Oleen White

Oleen White, age 92 of Rockford, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009, at U. T. Medical Center. She was a native of Burkesville, KY. She graduated from Lindsey Wilson College in 1938. She taught for several years before moving to Oak Ridge, TN with three of her friends, one of whom, Flossie Williams, still maintains that Oleen is her very best lifelong friend. It was in Oak Ridge where she met and married Lewis White. The White’s moved to Maryville in 1950. Oleen began teaching for the Blount County School System and taught for 33 years at Alnwick and Bungalow schools. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis M. White; parents, William Bedford Huddleston and Ella Mae Bow Huddleston; siblings, Lella Davis and Waymon Huddleston of Burkesville, KY, Haynes Huddleston of Chicago, IL, and Berle Huddleston of Oak Ridge, TN. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Charles Riden; step-daughter, Reva Price; granddaughters, Melissa Riden and Amanda Whitten; great granddaughter, Brandi Nicole Riden; great grandson, Jordan Tyler Whitehead; several loving nieces and nephews; and, by her longtime friend, Ruth O’Dell. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sue Lynn Johnson officiating. The interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
