In 1936, she married Charles S. (“Pat”) Hughes. Every facet of her life was dominated by her strong, abiding Christian faith, and she was a proud member of Calvary Baptist Church, Alcoa, since 1952. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Blanche Kidd; husband, Charles Hughes; sisters, Isabelle Johnson and Annie Montgomery; and brothers, Link, Joe and Jack Kidd. Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Bob Merriman of Walland, TN; her son, Rick Hughes, Point Lookout, MO; her granddaughter, Jessica Hughes, Alexandria, VA; her brother and sister-in-law, George and Martha Kidd, Aiken, SC; sister-in-law, Mary Katherine Kidd, Vonore, TN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Lucille Hughes, Vonore; other cherished family members, especially Evelyn and Dan Merriman; many dear friends; and many nieces and nephews who were always very good to her and of whom she was very fond. The family will receive friends at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Saturday, November 28 from 10-11:00 a.m. followed by a service of honor and remembrance with the Reverend Danny Davis officiating. Following the service, there will be a graveside gathering at the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, 1585 Mt. Tabor Road. Afterwards, family and church friends are invited to visit in the Fellowship Hall of Calvary Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Hughes would have liked donations to her Church, Calvary Baptist Church, 100 S. Rankin Road, Alcoa, TN 37701 or to New Hope Blount County Children’s Advocacy Center, 212 Cates Street, Maryville, TN 37801.
