Mary Elizabeth Cotter

January 16, 1925 — January 30, 2023

Mary Elizabeth Cotter departed this earth on Monday, January 30th, 2023, in Maryville TN. Mary was born in Maryville on January 16th, 1925, to William and Edith Wallace of Maryville. She was a graduate of Maryville High School (’43). In 1944 she married the love of her life, Hubert E. Cotter, who passed away in 2016 after 71 years of marriage. Mary and Hubert had five children; Liz (Cotter) Miller of Moundsville WV, Don Cotter of Henderson KY, Susan (Cotter) Anderson of Sikeston MO, Ken Cotter of Longmont CO, and Bill Cotter of Rossville TN. Mary was a member of Clover Hill Presbyterian Church.


Mary was devoted to her family whom she adored, and her love, support, and wisdom for them never wavered. In addition to spending time with family, she enjoyed traveling, camping and being outdoors. She was a strong, compassionate, and gentle soul who was a guiding light for her family, and all who knew her.


Mary was preceded in death by her parents William and Edith Wallace, her husband Hubert Cotter, her brother Bill Wallace, and her sisters Evelyn (Wallace) Humphrey, and Barbara (Wallace) Rickard, her son Donald Cotter, and her granddaughter Sarah Miller. She is survived by her children Liz, Susan, Ken, and Bill; her grandchildren Scott Anderson, Stacy Anderson, Ann (Miller) Helmick, Laura (Miller) McCall, Eric Cotter, Steve Cotter, Lucas Cotter, and Jenna (Cotter) Daller, and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.


Mary is in the care of McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville TN with Interment at Grandview Cemetery, Thursday February 2nd in a private family service.


In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tennessee Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
