Mary Alice (Thompson) Murrin McGinnis, age 71, of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 22nd with family by her side. Mary Alice, commonly know as Alice, is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Kathleen Thompson; her sidekick, Tigger; husband, Barry “Skip” Murrin, mother and father-in-law, H.T., Jr. and Jean Murrin; mother-in-law, Barbara McGinnis; brothers, Buddy Thompson, Tommy Thompson; brother-in-law, Terry Murrin, Homer Chapman, Arvil Lee Goins, Jerry Ferguson; sisters-in-law, Glenda Thompson, Mary Thompson, Susan Thompson; niece, Leesa Ferguson.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ricky McGinnis; 3 children, Scott (Jacki) Murrin, Amy (Kevin) Farley, Kevin Murrin (Carrie Kiley); 4 stepchildren, Eddie (Barbara) Edmonds, Greg (Melanie) Edmonds, Jennifer (Jeff) Samples, Michael McGinnis; grandchildren who she “loved to the moon and back”, Atticus Murrin, Caden Farley, Coleman Farley, Taylor Murrin, Layne Murrin; 4 step-grandchildren, Dustin Samples (fiancé Savannah Woodrough), Brook (Neylan) Bright, Madison McGinnis, Zachery McGinnis. Her surviving siblings include brother, Jimmy Thompson; sisters, Wanell Chapman, Gaynell Ferguson, Carolyn Goins; sister-in-law, Debbie (Gary) Woods; brother-in-law, Jeffery McGinnis; as well as many other family members and friends.
Mary Alice was born in Maryville, TN. She grew up in the Baptist faith and attended Kagley’s Chapel Baptist Church where she was a member. She graduated from Lanier High School and was employed by Blount County School Food Service Association and served as a lunchroom manager for 32 years, serving at Fairview Elementary for the majority of her time. She was best known for remembering EVERYONE’S birthday or anniversary, her friendly smile and of course for her famous school cafeteria rolls.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Chad Hughett, nurse Tammy Russell at Summit Medical and UT Hospice staff, especially Megan Browning for the wonderful care they provided.
The family will receive friends, Friday, October 27th from 4:00-7:00 PM, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville with services to follow with Reverend Randy Beeler officiating. Special music will be presented by Tim and Emma Crane. Committal services will be held Saturday, October 28th at Noon at Washburn Baptist Church Cemetery in Washburn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Liver Foundation or Young-Williams Animal Shelter.
