Mark Micheal McCarter, age 60, of Knoxville, TN left unexpectedly to be with the Creator on September 6th, 2017. He was born in Maryville, TN to M.C. McCarter and Betty Wilcox McCarter on January 16, 1957. Mark proudly served in the United States Navy as a Gunners Mate. After serving in the military he then went to work at the United States Postal Service where he retired after several decades as a civil servant. Then he had the opportunity to follow his passion of working in the recovery community. He helped many young men and women change their lives for the better. He was known for his tough love and telling you the truth. Mark had a big heart and was always willing to be of service. He spent many hours chopping wood and running the roads in Cherokee, NC to support his Fireside family. Mark annually attended The Prayer Ceremony in Rosebud, SD. He was very proud of his native heritage and culture as well as his southern roots. Mark loved his Vols and sported the Power T year-round. He was also an avid animal lover. He spent lots of time with his little black dog (Coda Mae), cheese thief (Jack Jack), and his abundance of chickens. He had a special connection with nature and could always spot an eagle or bear in the mountains. He was a proud Papaw, a loving Father, and a devoted husband to his Lori Darlin. One of his great joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a wonderful role model and teacher to the people in his life. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Wilcox McCarter; uncle, R.L. Merritt; grandson, Noah McCarter. He is survived by his parents M.C. and Helen McCarter; special aunt Delta Merritt; sisters Tamra (Mark) Hughes, Cindy (Mark) Hurst; special cousins Jeff (Penny) Merritt, Terrie (Walt) West; He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lori Webb McCarter; four children Scott(Melissa) Webb, Micah McCarter (Venus Diaz), Chris(Jenna) Kidd, and Melanie McCarter; six grandchildren Tristan Webb, Melanie Kossin , Caden Webb, Elaina Kidd, JD Parker and Isaac Kidd; several loved nieces and nephews; special friend/shipmate Robert Mongo Francis Marks family would like to express their appreciation for the pallbearers Jeff Merritt, Caleb West, Jacob West, Phil Clark, Zach Newton, and Grant Carringer. Family will receive friends at McCammon-Ammon-Click located at 220 W Broadway Ave, Maryville, TN 37801 on Tuesday September 12th, 2017 from 5pm till 7pm with a service to celebrate Marks life to follow. The interment will take place on Wednesday September 13th, 2017 at 2pm located at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery located at 2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920. Information on the procession will be given at the services.
