Marilyn Jane Minton Hill, "Janie", 81 of Maryville, Tenn. Passed peacefully away on May 30th, 2014 surrounded by her family. Janie was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to Barbara Hurst Minton and Edward Martin Minton. Jane was married to James Clifford Hill, also of Maryville. She graduated from Maryville High School where she was the first Homecoming Queen. She then attended the University of Florida where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority, Ε sweetheart, and Sigma Chi Derby Queen. Upon returning to Maryville, she worked with her parents in the family clothing business and became the buyer, manager and eventually the owner. Janie expanded Mintons Department store to Midland Shopping Center and then to Foothills Mall. She was a member of the Junior League and the Garden Club. She enjoyed many activities such as bridge, tennis, travel, visits to the Smokey Mountains and spending the winters in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Janie was a gracious hostess and her home was always open to her friends. Although Janie lived the majority of her life in Blount County, she also lived in a variety of cities with Jimmy's Army and professional football career; including Canada, Detroit and Pittsburgh. She has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville since childhood. Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Minton, her brothers Sonny and Buddy, her sister Helen Minton Grubb, grandson Christopher James Murphy and her husband of 49 years, James Clifford Hill. Jane is survived by her children, James Edward Hill and Elizabeth, Katheryn Jane Murphy and Brian, David Christopher Hill and grandchildren Katie Hill Morrell, Paige Hill, Matthew Murphy and Michael Murphy. Great children include Mary Catherine Morrell and Ram Morrell. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00PM Monday, June 2, 2014, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home followed by a service in the chapel. Graveside services for the family will be held immediately following the service. The family would like to thank Blount County Hospice service for their thoughtfulness and care, especially Carla and Ann. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
