Marian Chambers Harrison, age 95, passed away March 28, 2023. She was born in Alcoa, TN to the late James Phillip Chambers and Zora Collins Chambers.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Fields Harrison, daughter Ellen Harrison, and infant son Benjamin Harrison.
She is survived by her daughters Elaine Jollay (James), Cheryl Pratt, son David Harrison (Oana), grandchildren Aaron Jollay (Amy), Becky Jollay, Brandon Jewett-Hall (Eliza), Joe Pratt, Jesse Pratt, and great grandson Isaac Jewett-Hall.
Marian was the youngest of 11 children. Her parents moved their family from Chambers Creek in the Smokies to Alcoa, TN in 1918.
She spent summers as a child swimming in the Y and in Townsend, where her sister Elsa's husband, Boone Dykes was a chauffeur for Colonel Townsend.
She graduated from Knoxville Business College, worked in the Biology division at Y-12 in Oak Ridge, TN and later worked for Litton Bionetics Cancer Research in Fort Detrick, MD.
She enjoyed quilting, was an avid bridge player, leader of the first interracial Girl Scout Troup in Oak Ridge, and upset men at the Oak Ridge Sportsman's club when she outshot them in matches.
In 1964 she was a contestant on the TV show Jeopardy. Into her 90's she still enjoyed playing (and winning) Canasta. She was very gracious, understanding and forgiving, and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, May 13th at Fairview Methodist Church in Maryville, TN with visitation following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview Methodist Church.
