PROFFITT, Margaret White age 87 of Maryville, passed away November 13, 2003 at Shannondale of Maryville. She was a 58 year member of New Providence Presbyterian Church and attended the University of Tennessee. Was an active member of Tennessee Farm Bureau, serving from 1967-1982 as chair of Tennessee Farm Bureau Women. Lifetime member of Associated County Women of the World (ACWW), and organization focused on the health and welfare of rural women, especially health in third world countries. Served a term on the Tennessee Commission on the Status of Women. Was an advisor to the University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service and was a member of F.C.E. Preceded in death by: Husband, Harry H. Proffitt Jr. Daughter, Mary Alice Proffitt. Sisters, Bonnie Haley and Ruth White. Brothers, Horace and Eugene White. Survivors include: Daughter, Betty Proffitt Hale. Son and daughter-in-law John H. and Janet Proffitt. Grandson, Jeff Scheafnocker. Granddaugter, Rebecca Hale. Great grandson, Charles Wagner. Brother, Edward White of Connecticut. Sister, Elizabeth Tanner of South Carolina. Family by marriage: Mrs. Robert C. Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Ben A. Cunningham, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Bell, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Proffitt, and Dr. Robert Proffitt. A memorial service will be 2:30 PM Sunday, November 16, 2003 at New Providence Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Emily Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends following at the church. A family interment will be Friday at Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Phillip Bembower officiating. The family suggest memorials be made to: New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 W. Broadway, Maryville, TN 37801, Farm Bureau Ag-in-the Classroom Program, 324 Ellis Avenue, Maryville, TN 37804, or Blount County Chapter of the American Red Cross 300 E.
