Margaret Smith Jennings passed away April 3, 2007 in Silverdale, WA. She was born in Sweetwater, TN on August 2,1917 to George and Odie Victoria Smith. She attended Sweetwater City Schools before eloping to marry Paul S. Jennings in 1933. During WWII she worked at the Aluminum Company in Alcoa. After the war she was employed by the Ford dealership in Sweetwater until1950, when the family moved to DeKalb, IL where Mrs. Jennings worked for the General Electric Company for fourteen years. In 1964, she and her husband moved back to Maryville TN, where she lived until 2005, when she moved to Washington State to be near her son Stephen and his wife. For many years, Margaret Jennings was known as an active volunteer, particularly at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville where she accumulated several thousand hours of volunteer work. Among her jobs was delivering flowers to patients and hosting the family lounge for the cardiac care unit. She was also a regular at Goodwill, and helped to distribute commodities. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Paul Jennings, her parents, step-father, W.C. Parks, and four brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kathleen Jennings of Bainbridge Island, WA; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin (Patricia) Jennings of Oceanside, CA, Kimberly (Kevin) Wallien of Zionsville, IN; 2 step grandchildren and spouses, Lt.Col USMC Harvey (Mary) Schwartz of Ewa Beach, HI, and Heidi (Tony) Franklin of Lake Elsinore, Ca. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Middlesettlements Cemetery with Rev. Martha Sterne officiating.
